Daniel Z. Brito, Government Relations Manager
As government relations manager, Daniel Z. Brito works to redirect federal spending on drug policy. Daniel focuses on shrinking the federal budget for ineffective, prohibition-centered programs while increasing the budget for treatment, harm reduction and effective prevention strategies.
Before joining the Drug Policy Alliance, Daniel worked as a Legislative Assistant for nearly eight years in the office of Congressman Raúl Grijalva of Tucson, Arizona. Daniel’s portfolio included drug policy, labor, housing, LGBT civil rights, and foreign affairs, with special emphasis on Latin America and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Daniel also served as liaison to the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Before coming to Washington, Daniel worked for the initial Grijalva for Congress campaign, as a field canvass coordinator for the Arizona League of Conservation Voters, and as an intern with the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) Arizona Area Program. At AFSC, Daniel coordinated support groups for families of the incarcerated, workshops on the global economy, and campaigns to preserve accessible health care on Tucson’s south side.
