Job Announcement: Internet Communications Associate

The Drug Policy Alliance, the nation's leading organization working to end the war on drugs and promote new drug policies based on science, compassion, health and human rights, seeks an Internet communications associate in the Communications Department, located in Washington, DC. The candidate will work closely with the communications team to maintain and promote constituent relations, manage our engagement database, answer supporter inquiries, promote DPA's presence on social networking websites, and provide content for and management of our discussion board and blog. Additionally, the position will be responsible for light office administrative tasks, such as answering the phone and ordering supplies. Those with strong writing skills and an interest in entering the field of non-profit advocacy are particularly encouraged to apply.

Position Description

Position:  Internet Communications Associate
Location:  Washington, DC
Reports to:  Director, Internet Communications

Responsibilities include

  • Adding, editing and maintaining constituent records in Convio Constituent 360, DPA's online engagement database;
  • Responding to supporter email inquiries;
  • Creating strategies for raising DPA's presence on MySpace, Facebook and other social networking websites;
  • Overseeing and providing content for the DPA discussion board and blog;
  • Office administration such as answering the phone, ordering supplies, processing mail, contacting building maintenance and managing office equipment

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Excellent email and phone communications skills;
  • Excellent writing and research abilities;
  • Command of standard office applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word, and web tools such as content management systems and web browsers. Knowledge of Convio C360 a plus;
  • Familiarity with social networking sites;
  • Familiarity with and interest in drug policy reform a plus;
  • Thorough and detail oriented; and
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and collaboratively as needed.

Compensation

This position offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, as well as an excellent benefits package, including health, long-term disability and life insurance; a generous 403(b) plan; and four weeks paid vacation.

Note: this position requires the candidate live in the Washington DC area. Telecommuting will not be considered.
