We are seeking motivated and reliable candidates for the position of Harm Reduction Associate. Candidates should be committed to promoting drug policy reform and the principles of harm reduction.
Position Description
Position: Harm Reduction Associate, part-time or full-time, temporary (through Dec. 31, 2008)

Reports to: Harm Reduction Coordinator, Southern California
The position requires experience working in HIV/HCV prevention and/or community outreach; knowledge of harm reduction principles, including promoting syringe access; event/meeting planning and advocacy skills. Candidate must be comfortable with diverse populations, speaking in front of large groups, and working with little supervision. BA/BS degree or equivalent experience, solid MS Word and Excel skills, ideally Bilingual (Spanish/English). Must have reliable transportation, valid driver license and insurance, and be comfortable with the extensive driving required. Able to periodically work weekends as required.
Primary Responsibilities
The Harm Reduction Associate is responsible for developing awareness among and relationships with local pharmacists and pharmacy workers of the LA County Disease Prevention Demonstration Project (DPDP, pharmacy syringe sales). Duties include:
• Outreach to pharmacies throughout Los Angeles County to encourage pharmacy enrolment (visits & direct mail)
• Build relationships with enrolled pharmacies through follow up/liaison service
• Follow up and investigate consumer reports of difficulties utilizing the program
• Conduct, support and explore pharmacists outreach opportunities (eg, events, conferences)
• Provide administrative support to program: ensure appropriate communication (email & phone), provide bi-monthly progress reports, and attend staff meetings, conference calls, DPA events.
