Derek Hodel is the deputy director, based in New York. Prior to joining the organization, Hodel directed the Daystar Group, an independent consulting firm specializing in management, communications and public policy in the nonprofit and public sectors. A substantial proportion of his practice focused on HIV disease for clients that included the Ford Foundation, the Levi Strauss Foundation, the Open Society Institute, the M.A.C. AIDS Fund, the New York Community Trust, the New York Academy of Medicine and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s HIV Epidemiology, HIV Prevention and Ryan White CARE Services programs.
Most recently, Hodel served as interim executive director for Funders Concerned About AIDS. Previously, he was executive director at the PWA Health Group, director of public policy at Gay Men’s Health Crisis in New York and treatment and research director at AIDS Action Council in Washington, D.C.
