Margaret Dooley-Sammuli is Southern California deputy state director and the organization’s state-wide coordinator for Proposition 36, California’s landmark treatment-instead-of-incarceration law. In partnership with a growing network of Prop. 36 alumni, Dooley-Sammuli works to educate the public on the success of the diversion law and advocate for the program’s continuous improvement and funding. She also builds alliances in the recovery and treatment communities and with the prison reform movement.
Dooley-Sammuli earned her B.A. in linguistics and languages (Spanish and Mandarin Chinese) from Bryn Mawr College. She worked for the Economist Intelligence Unit in Shanghai and later in Hong Kong as an editor for several years before moving back to Southern California in 2004. Prior to joining the organization, Dooley-Sammuli was a freelance writer and political activist in San Diego.
