New Jersey Medical Marijuana Compassionate Use Campaign

One of Drug Policy Alliance New Jersey’s greatest victories to date is its Compassionate Use Campaign.  On January 18th, 2010, Governor Jon S. Corzine signed the “New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act,” which allows seriously ill patients for whom currently available medications are not effective access to medical marijuana with a doctor's recommendation. The passage of this legislation was the culmination of five years of extraordinary advocacy by Drug Policy Alliance New Jersey, patient and family advocates, our coalition partners in the Compassionate Use Campaign, and our allies and supporters.

But Drug Policy Alliance New Jersey, patient and family advocates, our coalition partners, and allies and supporters will not rest until New Jersey has safe regulated access for all people suffering from debilitating conditions.  This means actively participating in the Department of Health’s regulatory process to ensure that the rules of the program are not overly burdensome on patients or doctors, that an adequate number of alternative treatment centers are licensed throughout the state, and that the health commissioner expands the currently restrictive list of qualifying conditions for which a patient may obtain a recommendation to use medical marijuana.  New Jersey’s medical marijuana law is currently the most restrictive in the nation.

Please join us in supporting medical marijuana access in the State of New Jersey.
