DPA’s Chris Alexander appeared on Spectrum News in New York to discuss the forthcoming recommendation by New York’s Department of Health to legalize adult use of marijuana.
Recently, New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker spoke out in favor of legalizing marijuana for adult use in New York and said that the Department of Health will be releasing a full study on the topic in the coming days. The study was commissioned by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and announced in Zucker's address on the executive budget proposal. Zucker also announced that patients who are prescribed opioids will have access to the state’s medical marijuana program.
“What we have seen is that in states with greater access to marijuana people are having less overdose deaths. We’re just seeing a real difference there and I think that the state, the Department of Health and the governor are paying close attention to what’s happening in those states,” Alexander said.
