Ethan Nadelmann Hosts AMA on Reddit

Derek Rosenfeld

Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance, hosted an “Ask me Anything” on Reddit on November 20th, 2012. He took questions from the public and answered them live for one hour.

There were some really interesting questions! Here are a couple highlights:

Q:     If the war on drugs ended tomorrow and our federal government completely changed its drug policies, would you be interested in being in charge of whatever new office oversaw national drug policy?

A:    Probably not, but I’d consider it. It would be great to have the power to shape govt drug policies by and from within the government. But I also relish the ability to be able to speak my mind, which is not really an option when one is in government.

Q:     If you could magically get an endorsement for marijuana legalization from one public figure or organization of your choosing, who would it be and why?

A:     Great fantasy question. I'd probably start with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates and hope their endorsements came with $$$. Then I'd go for Obama and Hillary Clinton, the most likely candidate right now to succeed him as the Dem nominee. And Chris Christie and Paul Ryan. And Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid, the Senate leaders and least likely of them all -- but boy do we need to make more headway in the Senate. I know, dreamin', dreamin', but you asked.
