On Thursday, June 20, 2019, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez debated her amendment to reduce $5 million in funding for the Drug Enforcement Agency as part of a Department of Justice appropriations bill hearing. Her passionate remarks included a shout out to DPA for its work on this issue.

Put to a vote, the legislation passed, putting the U.S. another step closer to putting an end to the failed war on drugs. The reclaimed funds will be redirected for the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program, which allows drug addiction to be treated as a public health issue.
