DPA's asha bandele Calls For an End to Overdose Deaths on the Second Anniversary of Prince's Death

Michelle Eastwood

Prince died on April 21, 2016 after taking a painkiller that contained fentanyl. DPA's asha bandele sat down with Mic.com to talk about ending drug overdose deaths and changing the narrative on people who use drugs. bandele says Prince might still be alive if America didn’t shame people for using drugs.

“We could’ve [disrupted Prince’s death] if there was Naloxone available, if it had been available to him right there in the moment. But we’re more concerned about morality or the idea that somebody not be sober than we are with saving lives.” — asha bandele
