Health News Index Measured for Marijuana. Kaiser/Harvard Health. March/April 1999.
According to the March/April 1999 Kaiser/Harvard Health News Index, only 36% of Americans closely followed the National Academy of Science’s Institute of Medicine Report released in March 1999 on the medical uses of marijuana. Moreover, while 54% knew that the panel found that marijuana can be effective in pain and nausea management in cancer and AIDS patients, only 23% knew that the panel concluded that marijuana is not a gateway drug.
