68% of Montanans Support Medical Use of Marijuana. Montanans for Medical Rights. December 1998.
Montanans for Medical Rights conducted a statewide phone survey on December 10-13, 1998 to determine the attitudes of adult Montanans toward medical, industrial and general legalization of marijuana. Interestingly, although more than 68% of those polled support or strongly support "medical use of marijuana when prescribed by a doctor," almost 65% said they oppose or strongly oppose allowing patients with such a recommendation to cultivate marijuana for their own personal use.
