Alliance Art Benefit a Success
Wednesday, March 30, 2005

On Tuesday evening the Alliance held a tremendously successful benefit art exhibition and sale in New York City at the Cheim & Read Gallery, which generously donated space for the evening. The benefit was festive, with DJ High Priest playing to a packed house of at least 250 people, and musical performances by Sean Lennon and Harper Simon, who are on the cover of the current edition of Rolling Stone magazine.

Andrew Cuomo, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, gave a speech in which he rousingly endorsed the Alliance's work. Anthony Papa, the drug policy reform activist who turned to art while incarcerated under New York's Rockefeller drug laws, spoke as well, connecting the art world to the reform work and activism of the Alliance. Alliance Director Ethan Nadelmann introduced the Alliance to a very responsive crowd, many of whom were not previously familiar with the Alliance's work.

The event was co-chaired by Alba Clemente, Daniel Wolf, and Diego Cortez, who also curated the show.  Over forty of today’s leading contemporary artists donated works.

The exhibition is no longer open, but some pieces are still available.  If you are interested in purchasing a piece to benefit the Alliance, please check out the online catalogue.
