Drug Testing Fails Our Youth Tool Kit
February 13, 2007

Even if you can’t attend one of Drug Czar John Walters’s summits on student drug testing there is a lot you can do to help stop these dangerous drug war policies from entering the nation’s schools.

Click here if you CAN attend a Student Drug Testing Regional Summit.

Climb the Hill: Call, write or fax your representative and ask him or her to eliminate funding for federal student drug testing grants. Because these programs are both costly and unproven, the government is offering the enticement of federal funds to get such programs going. President Bush requested $17.9 million for student drug testing grants in his 2008 budget.

Ask your representative to eliminate the student drug testing grants because:

  • The only national study to date shows suspicionless drug testing is not effective in deterring drug use among young people;
  • Drug testing is expensive, taking away scarce dollars from other, more effective programs that keep young people out of trouble with drugs;
  • Drug testing may drive students away from extracurricular activities, which are a proven means of helping students stay out of trouble with drugs.

Get Others To Say No! Encourage others to attend the summits and talk out against student drug testing.

Donate to the Alliance and help the campaign against drug testing children.

Write a Letter to the editor of your local newspaper.

Speak Up! Launch a campaign.

Know the Facts about student drug testing.

Educate Others on the dangers of student drug testing. We have a flier you can print out and hand out.

Pass a Resolution against student drug testing in your PTA.

Encourage sensible drug education courses at schools.

Print an Anti Drug-testing poster that can be placed in your window, tacked on bulletin boards, or display at rallies.
