Our friends in Arkansas still think they have a chance to collect enough signatures to put medical marijuana on the ballot this November. We agree, and want to help however we can, which is why we are appealing to you now.
Most of the required signatures have been collected, but roughly 25,000 more valid signatures must be collected and submitted by August 25. That's three weeks from now. If our friends in Arkansas are successful, voters will get to decide whether Arkansas should continue to arrest sick people for the medical use of marijuana. Your help is needed to bring about this important reform! [Note: residents of neighboring states can also participate by collecting signatures and/or donating to these efforts]
Here are ways you can help:
- Contact Phyllis Thompson, Arkansas Alliance for Medical Marijuana, at 501-661-1917 if you want to be paid to gather signatures.
- Contact Pat Egan, Arkansas Alliance for Medical Marijuana, at pegan@alltel.net if you want to volunteer to gather signatures, even if you only want one petition to fill up with the signatures of fifteen friends, co-workers, or neighbors.
- Make a critically needed donation now.
- Send an email to alliance@ardpark.org requesting that your name and address be added to their mailing list for important updates.
Americans overwhelmingly support the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes to assist people with cancer, chronic pain, paralysis, multiple sclerosis, and other debilitating diseases. Every ballot initiative on this issue - in California, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Maine and Washington D.C. - has been approved, often by large margins. Arkansas polling consistently shows that two-thirds of Arkansas voters support this compassionate reform. There's every reason to believe that the Arkansas initiative will be approved - if it makes it onto the ballot!
Please take action TODAY! The clock is ticking. With your help, Arkansas can become the southern leader in taking a common sense approach to medical use of marijuana.
