Tomorrow the ONDCP will be in Las Vegas to try to convince local educators to implement random student drug testing programs in Nevada schools. Please come to our meet-up this evening to strategize about getting the word out that random student drug testing is costly, intrusive and potentially harmful to students!

Connecticut's Compassionate Use medical marijuana legislation, House Bill 6715 (HB 6715), passed the Joint Judiciary Committee in March and will be considered by the General Law Committee tomorrow. Let's make sure the committee passes the legislation tomorrow morning!
04/19/07 New York State Assembly Votes for Rockefeller Reform
On Wednesday, April 18, the Drug Policy Alliance and members of Real Reform New York held a press conference and film screening to support reform of the draconian Rockefeller Drug Laws (RDLs) in New York. The New York State Assembly went on to pass legislation which would further reform these laws, widely considered the nation’s harshest.
04/19/07 School Zone Reform, Medical Marijuana Move Forward in Connecticut
Connecticut has moved one step closer to becoming the first state to reform its so-called “drug-free” school zone laws. The state's Joint Committee on Judiciary voted in favor of House Bill 7406, which includes school zone reforms, just last week.
04/18/07 Maryland Approves Parole Reform and Makes Progress on Medical Marijuana
Reform in Maryland achieved a victory earlier this month when a parole reform bill, HB 992, passed the legislature. The bill, which was approved by the Senate with only 3 days left in the legislative session, now awaits the signature of Governor Martin O'Malley.

The Maryland Session ended earlier this week, and thanks to YOUR calls and faxes, we passed House Bill 992! HB 992 allows judges more discretion by making second-time nonviolent drug offenders who are sentenced to mandatory sentences eligible for parole. Please join me in sending a thank you note to our legislative allies.
