How Drug Education is Failing Our Kids: A Talk with Dr. Carl Hart and DPA's asha bandele

In the Drug Policy Alliance’s second installment of its 2015 Telephone Town Hall series, which is designed to expand the breadth and depth of those concerned with ending the drug war, the organization’s Movement Building Team presented Dr. Carl Hart, Columbia University professor, best-selling, award-winning author of High Price and DPA board member. He was interviewed by DPA’s grants program director, asha bandele.

Dr. Hart’s talk was unique in that he spoke directly to parents both as a neuroscientist and as the father of three black sons about how to mitigate the dangers of teen engagement with drugs. He was frank in saying that while drug effects are actually predictable, contrary to mythology, how police treat young black people, is not. Dr. Hart fielded questions on a wide variety of topics, from the drugs we prescribe our children, to ending stigma in our communities, to debunking the myths that mislead drug policy reformers.
