Letter to Attorney General re: Prioritization of Bureau of Prisons Programs that Reduce Long-Term Costs

With just a few weeks until deep automatic spending cuts under the Budget Control Act of 2011 are due to take effect, our diverse organizations are concerned that important Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) programs may be threatened. Should funding be reduced, we would urge you to prioritize investment in programs that reduce long-term federal prison costs rather than counterproductive steps to expand federal prison capacity or contract new private prison beds.
