The Green Party Platform calls “for a revised view of the ‘drug problem’ and an end to the ‘War on Drugs,’ recognizing that after over a decade of strident law-and-order posturing, the problems with hard drugs have only worsened.” The Green Party “would make drug treatment and other programs available for all addicts who seek help;” supports “alternative sentencing” and drug courts; and “would initiate social programs that are alternatives to gangs… and hard drug trafficking.”
The platform opposes “the illicit activities of the international drug trade and the illicit money laundering that often accompanies the drug cartels” and “mandatory drug testing [because it] violates civil rights...”
Michael Badnarik (Libertarian Party) | www.LP.org
The Libertarian Party Platform says that the “War on Drugs” is “dangerous to your children, your city, and your country” because it is responsible for “putting the wrong people in prison, trampling on your liberty, taking the drug business away from pharmaceutical companies and doctors, and putting it into the hands of criminals...” The platform further calls for “reserving the prisons for those who do harm to others, and making your life and property once again safe from search and seizure.”
